The parts of a tree

Conifers are plants that are often tree-like, consisting of a single trunk attached to the ground by roots, and have branches that form a crown.
The branches (or main offshoots) subdivide into smaller shoots. In general, the branches and leaves of a mature tree (more than 7m tall) start several metres above ground.
The part below the branches is called the stem.
Shrubs are smaller trees (less than 7m), with a very branched trunk, and bushes (less than 4m) are usually branched right from ground level. But size is not the only criterion that separates these three categories of woody plants.
